simondlr #37 - New Short Story: The Serendipity of Self
Hi friends!
I've released a new short story. I'm really proud of this. It's called "The Serendipity of Self". It's released on Mirror and utilises its new "Writing NFTs" platform. So, please read, collect, and share the story!
Suffering induced memory loss, Grayson wakes up to a world where everyone’s private messages were leaked. Delving deeper, he comes face to face with a surreal new reality.
I also wrote a blog post on why I wrote the story:
Enjoy!

Chaos: A Headless Band
By far one of the cooler projects recently. A wonderful, chaotic blend of creativity and an experiment in remuneration. 77 artists creating music together and selling NFTs to fund. It's already made $625,000 (!). There's still packs available.

Housing Bonanza
Got a host of links/threads on housing policy. In short:
1) Density is Greener. Let's do more of it.
2) Japan remains the country with the best zoning policies. Who doesn't want a small bakery next door?
3) Minneapolis is winning a lot of the right battles wrt housing. Check out this thread. A templated to follow, especially for American cities as they try to come out of the stupor of the car-centric suburban lifestyles.
Symphony in a C Compiler
Been enjoying Mackenzie's video essays on some of the interesting projects in the web3 space. This video about Deafbeef's work is great. I still get frisson when I see Entropy. A beautiful piece of art that uses NFTs as a new medium so perfectly well.
Secrets of the Book Publishing Industry
I enjoyed this take from Erik Hoel describing his experience in the book publishing industry. It's a story we've seen everywhere in the past few decades as all kinds of entertainment gets funnelled into strong power-law distributions: staying at the top of the pile attention is getting harder and harder. I have a future blog post on this topic I want to write.
The 13,000 Year Old Civilization
You MUST know about Gobekli & Karahan Tepe (if you don't already). It's rewriting history with an estimated 99% of the site still yet to be unearthed. The site containing temples are incoherent with our understanding of history, taking place before the agricultural revolution. I still love the idea that what it rewrites is why the agricultural revolution started at all. We didn't build temples and cities after we began to farm. We began to farm because we wanted to stay around spiritual and religious sites. In the of Karahan Tepe, lots of phallic worship. Guess, some parts of humanity never change.
That's all for now folks.
If you're enjoying the northern hemisphere, enjoy the late sunsets! If you are down south, the best sunsets happen when there's clouds being painted on the horizon by it. Enjoy it.
Take care,
Simon
